How efficiently public administration functions impacts social well-being in numerous ways. Efficient, quality-oriented and transparent public administration practices not only improve citizen well-being but also create prosperity and social cohesion. By developing and implementing innovations in the public sector the far-reaching benefits can be felt by all.

Institute for Public Management
Society's needs are constantly changing and raising new challenges for the public sector and reconciling the scarcity of budgetary resources with societal needs, so they are used effectively and economically, is a core question of our research. To avoid wasting resources, the systematic review of public spending is central. Through the scientific analysis of organizational structures and processes, our goal is to create modern public administrations which sidestep unnecessary bureaucracy and enable the best possible use of new technologies. This makes life easier for citizens, promotes investment, innovation and competitiveness within the business sector.
Transparent and open administrations also create added value for society by fostering trust. Despite not being quantifiable in figures, trust is fundamental for the targeted interaction between authorities and civil society and will become increasingly important in the future. In coping with demographic changes - a topic we are working on intensively, we are researching technologies for autonomous living in old age and investigating how the public and private sectors can optimally collaborate in the care of the elderly. Public management then becomes public governance - the management of the community with the involvement of many actors.
