Migration, human mobility and their consequences shape our world today. We analyze the interplay between these factors and societal change, contributing evidence-based knowledge to policy-making and public debate.

Center for Migration and Societal Change
We explore the patterns, processes, and the governance of migration and integration from the supranational to the very local, and from the institutional to the individual. Our team of political scientists, sociologists, anthropologists, linguists, human geographers and economists is committed to advancing scholarship on the effects of migration and human mobility on our increasingly interconnected and plural societies. By engaging with both the local and the global, the theoretical and the applied, our interdisciplinary team has a unique perspective on how and why migration matters for all of us.
We conduct applied and basic research on the following subthemes:
- Migration and integration governance at multiple levels of government
- Actors, processes and practices in postmigrant societies
- Migrants’ participation in socio-economic, cultural and political life
Through our research we pursue the following aims:
- Advancement of innovative scholarship on migration, postmigrant societies and societal change
- Fostering scientific collaboration at local, national and international level following principles of inclusivity and open science, at all stages of research, from development to dissemination.
- Informing both policy-making as well as the public debate by providing scientific evidence, offering consultancy and fostering knowledge exchange with non-academic stakeholders
